Blackheads, or comedones as cosmeticians call them, are an unpleasant cosmetic defect most often seen in people with oily or mixed skin type. The reason behind their appearance is the over-secretion of the sebaceous glands, when excess sebum, together with toxins in the bloodstream and lymph, clogs the pores. If the face is not regularly cleansed, the skin inflames. Comedones tend to appear predominantly in the T-zone – the area of the chin, nose and forehead. They can “blossom” not only on your face, but also on your back and other areas secreting copious amounts of sebum. In order to deal with this problem you have to cleanse your skin twice a day with a cleaning lotion and afterwards apply antiseptic lotion.
It is quite possible to deal with the blackheads at home, all by yourself. Once a week treat your skin to a chamomile steam bath. It will soften it and open up the pores. You can apply a warm compress over the problem areas. This will make the removing of the blackheads easier. Do not let your skin become overly dry, because this way you will provoke your body’s natural defensive response and it will begin to secrete even more sebum.
You can also utilize the help of homemade cleansing masks. Masks with oat meal or oat bran and citrus fruits, such as grapefruit or lemon, are extremely efficient. Here is a recipe you can try:
Ingredients:
4 tablespoons of oat bran
2 tablespoons of chamomile or calendula brew
1 tablespoon of citrus juice (grapefruit or lemon)
Mix everything together and apply to your face. Keep on for about 20 minutes and rinse with cool water.
If the home remedies do not seem to be working for you, you should seek help from a cosmetologist. He will recommend a chemical scrub with fruit acids that you can use to solve this problem in a more sophisticated way.
