Thyme has disinfectant and deodorizing properties. It also acts as an antiseptic and helps with all kinds of skin inflammations. Thyme opens the pores and regulates the activity of the sebaceous glands. Thyme baths calm the nervous system and are used for treating respiratory infections.
Thyme compresses are very beneficial for oily skin. If your skin is oily try brewing one tablespoon of dry thyme leaves and blossoms in 400ml (about one pint) of hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Dip a towel in this brew and place it over your face like a compress for 10-15 minutes.
And here you can find the recipe for a homemade thyme lotion which helps with eczema, acne and itchiness.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon of thyme
½ cup of water
50g of unsalted lard
10g of fresh butter
Brew the thyme in the hot water for 30 minutes. Strain. Heat the lard and butter together, stirring constantly until they melt and add the reheated thyme brew. Mix well and remove from the oven. Store in air-tight containers in a cool place. Apply the lotion to the problem areas each evening after cleansing.
